Top Five Things to Know About CBD Dosing

One of the most user-friendly aspects of CBD is that there are a wide variety of delivery mechanisms from which to choose. Looking for the most direct and efficient way to get CBD’s goodness flowing through your body? Oil taken sublingually (under the tongue) is your best bet. Hoping to take advantage of the simplicity of merely popping a pill? Capsules are your answer. Or maybe you have aches and pains in one specific area, making a soothing cream applied topically to your sore spots the perfect pick.

Whatever your product preference, you’ll still need to know how much CBD to take in order to reach your desired outcome. Like most things related to wellness, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Dosing is more of an art than a science, and it takes time to get a good grasp on how much CBD your body needs. For those of you still in the process of exploring, read on as we detail the top five things to know about CBD dosing.

1)    Start low and slow

If you’re just dipping your toe into the world of CBD, the best advice we can give is to start low and slow. That means to begin with both a lower strength product and amount. Many people find that 10 to 20mg of CBD per day is sufficient, so start on the lower end of that scale and work your way up. Higher concentrations of CBD may work sooner than those that are less potent, so make sure you’re patient along the way.

2)    Finding your sweet spot is key

The sweet spot is the term used to describe the ideal dosage of CBD. Your sweet spot is the level where you can take as little CBD as possible each day to reach your desired outcome. Everyone’s sweet spot is different, and what works for one person might not work for another.

3)    Track your progress

You should try taking CBD at the same time of day each day so that your body gets into a routine and so you can best assess how you’re feeling under similar circumstances. Take the time to write down notes in a journal chronicling your daily dosage, what time you took the CBD and how you felt in the hours after dosing. Review the notebook to look for patterns, as these trends can help guide you toward identifying your sweet spot.

4)    Different mechanisms offer varying levels of control

We talked earlier about a few of the different delivery mechanisms and how each has a place in a wellness regimen. But beyond just determining how you take your CBD, these delivery mechanisms will likely have an influence on how much you take. For instance, let’s say that through trial-and-error, you’ve determined that 25mg of CBD per day is the right amount for you. Many CBD manufacturers who produce capsules, including Woven Earth’s Daily Full Spectrum CBD capsules, have a strength of 20mg CBD per capsule.

With this delivery mechanism, you’re at the mercy of the dosage within each capsule, so your options would be either 20mg or 40mg (neither of which may be right for you). However, tinctures like Woven Earth's Daily Full Spectrum CBD Oil give the user complete control. With 13.3mg of full-spectrum organic CBD in each 1ml dropper, the user could easily reach that 25mg sweet spot with two doses of our oil throughout the day.

5)    How much CBD is too much?

Again, because there are so many variables regarding CBD dosing, it’s hard to say how much is too much. What we do know is that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not issued any official guidelines for CBD usage because its use is outside the agency’s regulatory scope. However, the FDA has approved one form of CBD oil—a medication called Epidiolex for the treatment of seizures in people with certain types of epilepsy.

According to the FDA, the recommended starting dosage for Epidiolex is 2.5mg/kg taken twice daily, with the dosage increasing as needed until reaching a maximum daily amount of 20mg/kg1. While that dosage is likely significantly more than the average CBD user would ever need, studies show that doses as high as 1,500mg per day have been shown to be well-tolerated2.

Before using any CBD product, it’s always a good idea to talk with your doctor about what you hope to accomplish by taking CBD. Woven Earth has an entire line of high-quality, full-spectrum CBD products that may be able to help as each is designed for a specific purpose.
